A former student of Tendring Technology College (TTC), a part of Lift Schools, has continued to amaze with her incredible swimming achievements in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Ellie Challis secured a gold medal in the Women's 50m Backstroke S3 event. Swimming a personal best time of 53.56 seconds at the La Defense Arena, Ellie showcased her talent, determination, and resilience on the global stage.
Ellie's journey to success began even before her recent gold medal triumph. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, she became Paralympics GB's youngest medallist.
Ellie’s connection with her former school remains strong. Following her success at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, she returned to the school to meet with her Year 13 classmates, PE staff, and the teachers who supported her throughout her academic journey.
During her visit, Ellie generously donated her Team GB swimsuit and swim hat to the school’s PE department as a token of gratitude and inspiration for future athletes.
In an emotional moment, Ellie proudly showed her Paralympic medal to her fellow students and shared her story of perseverance and belief. "Nothing is impossible if you keep trying and believing," she told the students, encouraging them to chase their dreams, no matter the challenges they might face.
Ellie’s achievements extend far beyond the pool. As a young woman who overcame adversity to reach the highest levels of Paralympic sport, she has become a beacon of inspiration for the next generation students at Tendring Technology College and beyond.
Her journey serves as a reminder that with determination, support, and self-belief, any goal is achievable.
