Beyond the classroom
Everything we do here starts with our priority – the child. We believe every single child is entitled to an excellent education - no matter what their background, or what their future might hold.
Beyond the classroom

Learning is about far more than classroom instruction. We are committed to giving every one of our pupils the knowledge and experience necessary to fulfil their potential, facing the world with confidence.

What gives our pupils the edge?

Our pupils are drawn from some of the least affluent communities in the country. The proportion of pupils eligible for pupil premium in our schools is more than ten percentage points higher than the national average.

Education can change lives. We want to ensure that all our pupils have an understanding of the world beyond their own community – no child should be limited by background, birthplace or lack of wealth.

We therefore provide all our pupils with enrichment experiences, to enhance their cultural capital – their knowledge and understanding of the world.

School trips take our pupils to the theatre, museums, local and regional cities and on residential visits.

Our primary schools take pupils on regular school trips – last year, every one of our primary pupils participated in at least four educational visits or school-based enrichment experiences.

How do we prepare our pupils for life after school?

We have high aspirations for our school leavers. We want them to set ambitious goals and to make informed decisions that help them live life to the fullest.

Part of this involves providing thoughtful, individualised careers guidance. We developed our career guidance using the Gatsby Benchmarks, the framework for world-class careers provision.

We incorporate discussions of employability and work-related skills into the curriculum. We expose our pupils to a wide range of careers options. And we offer a variety of opportunities, experiences and encounters, including skills workshops, work experience and visits to leading universities.

Students leave our schools with clear skills for the workplace, as well as the knowledge necessary to help them choose and secure jobs in which they can be successful, happy and productive.
