Primary schools celebrate excellent results
September 3, 2024
Reading time:

Phonics up 3pp (2023) | KS2 up 6pp (2023) | Pupil Premium phonics up 5pp (2023) | Pupil Premium KS2 up 7pp (2023)

Lift Schools is celebrating excellent results this week, with our primary schools seeing record results in phonics and key stage 2 SATs across our network. Results were particularly promising for disadvantaged children, with those qualifying for pupil premium performing better than non disadvantaged pupils nationally.

Three of our Midlands primaries, Percy Shurmer, Lea Forest Primary and Montgomery are listed in the top ten primary schools in the region for their results.

Phonics

Our phonics results were also strong again this year: 89% of our year 1 pupils passed the phonics screening check, a 3 percentage point increase on last year and a full 10 percentage points higher than the national average in 2023.

Key stage 2

In key stage 2, we are delighted to report another substantial increase in the number of children across our network meeting the expected standard. 76% of our Y6 pupils met the standard in reading, writing and maths combined this year, a six percentage point increase from 2023,  and 15 percentage points higher than the national average in 2024. Four of our primary schools met or exceeded 90% in KS2 tests.

Results for disadvantaged children

We are especially proud of the outcomes achieved by our disadvantaged children. As a trust, our goal is to eliminate the difference between the results of disadvantaged children and their peers.

88% of disadvantaged children passed their phonics check. This was 5 percentage points higher than 2023, and 21 percentage points higher than the national average recorded last year. In 22 of our 31 primary schools, a higher proportion of disadvantaged pupils passed the phonics screening than non-disadvantaged pupils nationally.

For key stage 2, 70% of disadvantaged children across our network met the expected standard, 7 percentage points higher than the 2023 average across the trust. Half of our schools (15 of 31) have KS2 attainment for disadvantaged pupils that is above last year's national average for non-disadvantaged pupils.

Together, these results are a true testament to the excellent work taking place across our primary schools. A huge thank you to all our brilliant teachers, staff, children and families for their hard work in achieving these fantastic results.

Ruth Murad, Director of Primary at Lift Schools, said:

“We are delighted by the outcomes achieved by our primary schools. These results show that our primaries are positively impacting children on a national scale, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. We are incredibly proud of these achievements for all of our children.”
