Reading time:

Staff and pupils at Anglesey Primary Academy, part of Lift Schools, have welcomed Olympic bronze medallist Joel Fearon for a day of workouts through the Sports for Schools campaign. The Olympian also gave a motivational speech in which he spoke movingly about his life and his dedication to sports and encouraged the children to follow their dreams and work hard to accomplish them.

Over the course of the day, Joel led each class through a series of circuit workouts, encouraging the children to try their hardest and push themselves. They learned how to exercise different muscles and how their efforts would help them get fitter and stronger over time.

Each class also had the opportunity to watch the previous group ahead of doing their workout, so they could see how these were done.

After the exercises were finished, Joel gathered the children around him for a motivational talk about how he dedicated himself to his dream of going to the Olympics, the hard work that it took to get there, and the importance of believing in himself. He encouraged the children to think about their dreams and to understand that they can do anything they put their minds to if they truly believed in themselves.

Laiba, a Year 6 pupil at Anglesey Primary Academy, said:

Mrs Howarth, Assistant Headteacher at Anglesey Primary Academy, said:

Joel and Emily, from Sports for Schools, were both really engaging and worked brilliantly with children from Reception to Year 6! The children loved getting involved in the assembly and the workshops throughout the day. There was a real buzz around the school all day, can't wait to have another visit in the future!”

“Joel really put the children through their paces with a series of activities and was so motivational throughout. Our pupils loved taking part in the different exercises and seeing how much they could accomplish by working hard and supporting each other, and they all did so well completing the circuits.

“Joel’s passion and energy radiated throughout the whole school – he was truly aspirational!  Thank you to Joel, Emily and Sports for Schools for helping arrange it!”
